Why should you start a planner?
Physical planners have become quite popular in recent years. More and more people are trying their hand in journaling every day. Have you ever wanted to give it a try, but had no idea where to start from? If yes, we are here to help you with that and hopefully encourage you to go further in your bullet journal planner journey.
Set a goal for yourself
Whenever creating a plan, you may want to consider what you want to achieve with it first. You should at least have a vague goal at mind… This will make the planning stage much easier. After all, if you aren’t striving for anything what is the purpose of this plan? It doesn’t matter if you are planning an event, studying for an exam, starting your own business, an end goal will always be helpful.
Figure out what spreads you would need
One of the most fun parts of journaling is creating spreads. Just with a quick search online you can find at least a hundred different spreads for everything you will ever need and more. It gets a little bit overwhelming, doesn’t it? In the beginning you should stick to the few that you think will be the most helpful and further down the road you can experiment and switch it up. A million spreads won’t necessarily help you, especially if you don’t use them.
Log your accomplishments regularly
In order for the spreads to actually be useful, you should try to record all your accomplishments regularly. This is also one of positives of only having a couple useful spreads than having a hundred that you barely use. You probably won’t have time to update all of them if they are too much, which sort of defeats the purpose.
Another useful tip is to generally try to be realistic when you are setting your goals. Of course you should always be optimistic and hope for the best, but you should not set yourself up for a failure from the beginning. If the plan is so unrealistic that it is physically impossible for you to achieve it, you will only end up disappointed and discouraged. However when you actually manage to fulfil your goal, you will feel an even greater sense of fulfillment.
Last but not least, don’t forget to decorate your planner! Cute doodles, drawings and bright colors are not only very aesthetically pleasing, but they can also help you to stay organized. For example you can try color coding different types of tasks or coloring them a certain color when you have achieved them. The bright colors help them to stick out.
Hopefully these tips will help you start your own bullet journal planner. I promise you it’s not that complicated as it sounds, when you get the hang of it, it is actually a very easy way to stay organized.
